Rashad Evans vs Chuck Liddell UFC 88 Fight Analysis
On September 6, 2008 the Evans and Liddell with face off at UFC 88.
Originally the Liddell and Evans fight was to take place in UFC 85 but Liddell sustained a hamstring injury that forced him from the card. So after a much anticipated wait, its back on.
Here is a quick look at each fighters strengths and advantages:
Chuck Liddell’s Strengths
Striking – Liddell is a dangerous with the combination of knockout power and counterstriking ability. He can move back or sideways and still deliver a potent punch.
Take Down Defense – Perhaps the best takedown defense in the UFC. Chuck rarely gets put on the ground and on the few times its happened he has the impressive ability of getting up very quickly. His strong wrestling background can be attributed to his excellent takedown defense
Mobility – Liddell has excellent foot work and knows how re-direct / attack from different angles.
Rashad Evans Strengths
Wrestling and Explosiveness – Evans is a collegiate wrestler and was originally a heavyweight and won notable victories over Keith Jardine and Brad Imes.
Kicks – surprisingly Evans has great powerful high kicks. A perfect example is when he knocked out Sean Salmon in UFC Fight Night 8. Salmon was out cold and had to be carried out of the ring.
Endurance – Is used to fighting fights with more rounds.
Fight Analysis
Chuck is on the spring board with his last win over Wanderlei Silva, a long time rival. If Chuck wins this, he’ll be back on track to the regain the UFC Light-heavyweight title. While Rashad is undefeated in (16-0-1) and his only draw was against a controversial fight against Tito Ortiz. Not only is there the pressure of being undefeated, Rashad is from Atlanta and will have more pressure fighting in front of his hometown crowd.
I think that this fight is a tough one to call… but I will give the advantage to Chuck Liddell, he’s got the counter-striking ability and the takedown defense. If Rashad does manage to take Chuck down then it might prove trouble for Liddell, but there is a high chance that this fight will stay standing.

Who are the MMA Girls?
A while ago I saw a youtube video of two attractive girls demonstrating MMA techniques. I didn’t really think of anything of it, just thought that it was cute. (no offense ladies!)
Then I recently stumbled upon their website (MMAGirls.net) and I was very impressed. The founder Joanne is an expert who is seriously involved in MMA: the site is complete with fighter interviews, fight analysis and the always popular MMA technique demonstration.
However, I think the most important part of MMAGirls.net is Joanne’s main goal of the website, she states: “One of my goals is to convince non-MMA fans that this is truly a great sport that has grown beyond its early roots of being promoted for its brutality. MMA fighters are some of the most skilled and well conditioned athletes in the world, and they deserve recognition from mainstream media.”
So, I’d like to give kudos to Joanne and MMA Girls for providing a very valuable and unique perspective on Mixed Martial Arts as well as supporting the growth of the sport!!!
Here is the video I saw a while ago:
Dana White’s Video Blog About His Work in the UFC
The UFC President Dana White has started a video blog about the behind the scenes action in the UFC. It usually centers on his day-to-day activities that take place before a big event. Dana White has often been criticized for his management style and “cocky” persona.
And at first, I thought this video blog was just going to make it worse for Dana White’s public image. However, this video blog is a great idea. It really gives us a good perception of the REAL Dana White: a hardworking businessman, who drives the success of the UFC.
Also, I didn’t realize how funny Dana White is and how much shit he has to do to make everything run smoothly. There are also cameo appearances in different videos of some of the more popular fighters such as Rampage Jackson and Matt Hughes.
Here is the most recent video blog that was started a couple days before UFC 87 and ends after the event.
Looking forward to more of these!
Who Will George St. Pierre Fight After UFC 87?
After George St. Pierre’s recent victory over Jon Fitch in UFC 87, people have been asking only one question.
Who will GSP fight next?
Most likely it will be BJ Penn. The fans want it to happen. The UFC wants it to happen. Most importantly both fighters are ready for it:
“Let’s put the fight together, let’s do it,” said Penn.
“I’m a proud champion and I’m ready to fight everybody who deserves a shot,” said St-Pierre. “I know BJ Penn wants a shot, and I’m ready for him. “

George St. Pierre Talks About His Win Over John Fitch in UFC 87
George St. Pierre talks about his recent victory over John Fitch in UFC 87. Of course, GSP exhibits class and respect for his opponents. He also talks about how he tried to finish the fight several times, but Fitch is a true warrior and “never dies”…..
Brock Lesnar Defeats Heath Herring UFC 87
When Lesnar opened up the fight with with a strong right punch that literally sent Herring tumbling end over end, I was shocked. Then to make things even more intense, Lesnar explodes into a head first bull-rush to capitalize on his downed opponent. Lesnar exhibited the strength and speed like an animal. Throughout the fight he overpowered and dominated Herring…and Lesnar wins his first UFC match.
But here’s the question: Is Brock Lesnar the Real Deal?
Probably…. Its quite obvious that Lesnar is a gifted athlete, has the strength to manhandle a 250lb man in the octagon and is progressing in his technique. (even only a little bit)
But one thing is for sure, we haven’t seen Lesnar take a punch or go for openings/submissions that more experience MMA fighters would do. Yes, Brock Lesnar is superior athlete and will be a dominating force, but he still has PLENTY to learn and experience. Read more
Tito Ortiz Officially Signs with Affliction
The former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz has officially signed with Affliction MMA. Tito will once again team up with billionaire Donald Trump, the star/creator of the reality show “the Apprentice”. It was quite obvious on the show that the Donald was very fond of Tito and when it was announced that Donald Trump was a significant part of Affliction, it was expected that Tito would also follow suit.
Of course, there was no reason for Tito to stay with the UFC, as there was plenty of drama and turmoil between him and UFC president Dana White. It seemed to be a very personal squabble. Nevertheless, in a Sports Illustrated interview Tito reveals his thoughts on the differences between Affliction and the UFC:
“Mr. Trump [Affliction] sees it as a business and no more than that. He understands that and there’s nothing personal to it at all and that’s what the UFC has problem with. The UFC takes the work they do very, very personal and in any business once you let your personal feelings get involved with it everything goes to [crap]. Mr. Trump is a strict businessman who respects the fighters. This is going to be one of the biggest losses [the UFC] has ever had to date and one of the worst mistakes they’ve ever made.” Read more
