Affliction Entertainment has signed a deal with HDNet Fights. Affliction will air part of its fight card on the HDNet cable channel. HDNet will feature the first 90 minutes of live bouts on each Affliction event. The remainder of the fight card will be on pay per view.
Andrew Simon, HDNet Fights CEO says that: “This is the beginning of a long-term partnership with Affliction that encompasses live MMA, co-marketing and top fighters for the top weekly show in MMA — ‘Inside MMA’ on HDNet….Affliction has quickly become one of the top organizations in MMA, which means it is a must have for HDNet.”
The Affliction-HDNet deal will begin with upcoming the “Day of Reckoning” Affliction event, broadcast live on Oct. 11.
I think this is a smart move for both companies. As Affliction needs the co marketing power of HD-Net and the Inside MMA show is perfect for promotion. While HD Net Fights needs the Affliction brand that has been popular with MMA fans. Also free MMA fights on HD Net is great.
Although, I think that for this to succeed long term, Affliction should continue its focus on more great match ups in their fights with recognizable fighters. their July 19th event with Fedor, Tim Sylvia, and Arlovski. The superstar MMA fighter is a crucial element and if they keep bringing solid fight cards like the one on July 19th, then they should be in good shape.
